12 things to do in Portsmouth this July
Shop for unique finds from local artists and creators as you walk down to the seaside to listen to live 90s music, before strolling through the old part of town to sip champagne 100 metres over the harbour or watch a Japanese film on the biggest screen on the south coast in one of Britain’s most key naval dockyards. All of this and much, much more is coming to Portsmouth in July 2017!
As the summer vibes begin to flow, Portsmouth’s events calendar begins to heat up big-time. Keeping on top of it all can be a daunting ordeal, so we’ve picked out some of our recommendations for the weeks ahead.
The Red Turtle at No. 6 Cinema
No. 6 Cinema, Portsmouth’s only independent filmhouse, screen 2016 French-Japanese animated fantasy drama film The Red Turtle on Saturday 1st July 2017, from 7:00pm.
Through the story of a man shipwrecked on a tropical island inhabited by turtles, crabs, and birds, this dialogue-less animation recounts the milestones in the life of a human being.
It’s produced by Studio Ghibli.

Love Southsea Street Market in Palmerston Road
An eclectic mix of traders will be setting up stalls at the Love Southsea Market in Palmerston Road on the first weekend of July — from makers, artists, illustrators, and vintage clothes traders to jewellery makers, shabby chic sellers, and giftware stalls.
And, ideal for lunchtime, they always offer a diverse selection of street food traders!
Southsea Bandstand present Rhythm of the 90s on Castle Field
The demand for Rhythm of the 90s at Southsea Bandstand has escalated to the point where their show has been relocated just next door to Castle Field!
This fully live 90s dance cover band perform on Sunday 2nd July from 1:00pm.
They’ll be joined by 80s cover band Great Scott and DJ Ray Andrews.
Entry to this Southsea Bandstand event is, as always, free.

The Bog Rolling Stones vs The Silver Beatles
On Friday 7th July, Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms are hosting a battle between two incredible tribute bands. It’s The Bog Rolling Stones vs The Silver Beatles.
In the blue corer, Portsmouth’s favourite and finest Stones tribute, with a reputation as one of the most authentic-sounding tribute acts around! Satisfaction’s always guaranteed with these long-haired boys.
And in the red corner, expect early Beatles, late Beatles, dead Beatles, living Beatles — all the Beatles, courtesy of the tribute act Cynthia Lennon herself described as “lookalikes, soundalikes, and even thinkalikes — it’s uncanny!”

The Portsmouth Relay for Life returns for its 21st year on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July 2017, bringing the local community together to unite against cancer.
Teams of friends, family, and colleagues rally together, raising as much as possible through the year for Cancer Research UK.
The vital money raised at the relay goes towards beating cancer.

Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club presents the best in live stand-up at Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 15th July.
They bring you comedians off the telly from such shows as BBC2’s Mock The Week, Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats, BBC One’s Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and plenty more.
Southsea Food Festival 2017
Tens of thousands of shoppers will descend upon the Southsea Shopping district on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July 2017 for the ninth annual Southsea Food Festival.
100+ street food traders are set to offer up wares and produce ranging from fresh fruit and veg, confectionaries such as sweets and macarons, and beers and IPAs to international dishes like German wurst, Thai curries, and Spanish paella.
