Don’t Be Surprised To See A Gold Letterbox In Portsmouth!
You may or may not be aware but whenever a member of Team GB will a gold for their country the local council & Royal Mail to that Olympians home town are painting a letterbox gold in honor of their win.
However it is quite feasible for one of these special gold letterboxes to spring up in Portsmouth & Southsea so keep your eyes peeled.
On two occasions now letterboxes in the WRONG towns & Cities have been painted in error by the Royal Mail.
The Royal mail earlier in the week mistakenly painted a postbox in Harlow, Essex in honor of gold medalist Laura Trott who won gold in the Omnium cycling event at London 2012. Laura’s home town is actually Cheshunt in Hertfordshire!
Then after Equestrian Olympian Peter Charles won Gold this week the Royal Mail chose to paint a post box in Alton in honor of Peters great win but his home town village was actually Bentworth, a village about five miles away from the chosen site.
So watch out Portsmouth & Southsea as later this week Tom Daley will be competing in the final of the 10m high dive and his home town is Plymouth, just around the corner from us. Good luck Royal Mail!
