The much-publicised America’s Cup World Series will be arriving in Portsmouth in July 2015, with nearly 500,000 visitors expected to arrive in the city for the event.
Organisers of the Series event, Team Origin, headed by Sir Keith Mills, want to showcase Portsmouth and the many businesses in the local area to this huge, festive, captive audience.
Talking about the arrival of the World Series in Portsmouth, Sir Keith Mills said: “This will not just be a spectacular sporting event, it will also showcase Portsmouth, the South Coast and Great Britain on a global stage, delivering economic benefit to the City and the sponsors involved.”
With onshore and water-based activities for all demographics and a showcase for the most amazing racing action the Hampshire region has ever seen, the four-day event promises to provide an opportunity for local businesses and organisations to gain some unprecedented exposure and marketing.
A spokesperson for Team Origin said: “We are already in discussions with a number of businesses — internationally, nationally and locally — that are interested in becoming event partners, sponsors, suppliers, are interested in taking exhibition space in our race village. There are plenty of options for business to engage and benefit from involvement in this event.”
As well as a dedicated Waterfront Race Village located on Southsea Common and hosting a large festival area with a packed four-day programme of sport and live entertainment where spectators can dine and shop and watch the racing on large screens, the event will include a ticketed Fanzone for those who want to want to get closer to the action and immerse themselves deeper in the America’s Cup experience.
In the Fanzone, attendees will have the opportunity to learn all about the skippers, teams, and boats, and follow the racing action to the second. The Fanzone will also feature a world-class hospitality pavilion offering a number of optional packages and uninterrupted, exclusive views overlooking the race’s official course.
