Olympics Opening Ceremony & Updates From #McDOlympics
Friday night an estimated 26.9 million people tuned in to watch the Olympic ceremony and many Portsmouth locals watched on the big screen in the Guildhall Square.
The ceremony was alive with excitement with features including Mr Bean playing with the Royal Orchestra and The Queen jumping out of a helicopter with James Bond – I’m slightly jealous!
The Olympic Cauldron was lit by nominated young athletes who were recognised for their excellence and determination after weeks of speculation about who would be lighting it.
Day one began with the first gold of 2012 being won by Yi Siling of China for the Women’s 10m Air Rifle Shooting.
Saturday was the day for Team Local’s top 10 Mark Cavendish to shine in the Road Cycling Race.
Despite being expected to win gold after his success at last year’s Tour De France, Cavendish failed to finish in the top three with Alexandre Vinokourov of Kazakhstan stealing the gold, Rigoberto Uran Uran of Colombia winning silver and Alexander Kristoff of Norway winning Bronze.
No one from Team GB has won a medal yet but Rebecca Adlington from our top ten is competing tomorrow in the Women’s 400m Freestyle swim heats at 11:20 and hopefully the final at 20:15.
Its not to late to follow our selected 10 Team Locals Olypians as well, check them out here -

A very good friend of mine Emily ‘McDennis’ Dennis was chosen to be one of the 2,000 staff working at the McDonald’s store in the Olympic park.
Emily was given this opportunity by being one of the best crew members in the country. Through the next week in her time at the store we will be following her progress and giving you the highlights of her tweets, who she sees and what she gets up to!
