Pompey Fight On As They Avoid Liquidation!
We all know the saying, ‘Pompey ’til I die!’ and today could of easily seen the death of Portsmouth’s historic club.
Liam Lawrence is the final player to leave Pompey ahead of the start of the League 1 season next week and Trevor Birth had given a final deadline of Friday 10th August to off load all senior high earning players.
The sale of Lawrence has seen Birch confirm that Portsmouth F.C. will not be put into liquidation and the terms of Portpin’s purchase and the Pompey Supporters Trust can now proceed.
Portsmouth Council have also agreed to loan Pompey Supporters Trust the money they require to buy Fratton Park, however it’s fairly obvious that now these players have been removed Chainrai will do whatever he can to scupper their takeover and remain in control of his assets.
Michael Appleton, will be hoping the takeover is completed by then so he can recruit some players, having been working with a mixture of youngsters and triallists during pre-season.
In a statement on the PFC website Birch has said – “We will now aim to finalise our discussions with Portpin with a view to completing the sale of the club as soon as possible.
“The intention is to push this through early next week in order to ensure that player recruitment can begin as quickly as possible for the start of the new season.
“The offer from the Pompey Supporters’ Trust remains a fall-back position and we are pleased to note that the council has agreed to provide a loan facility to support the Trust bid.”
