Portsmouth International Kite Festival returns to Southsea Common on 23rd — 25th August Bank Holiday weekend for its 23rd annual occurrence, organised by The Kite Society of Great Britain.

The Kite Festival is one of the premier kite festivals in the U.K. and has grown year on year to be recognised by the worldwide kite community as one of the best kite festivals — attracting many kitefliers from around the world together with tens of thousands of spectators.

The setting for the event is another contributing factor to its appeal, overlooking the Solent and providing wide open spaces and solid winds, the perfect conditions kite fliers need to showcase their spectrum of gliding masterpieces.

With a great lineup of kite artists attending from Europe and beyond, this year’s Kite Festival will offer another exciting weekend of unique entertainment. The skies above Southsea will be filled with an incredible array of beautiful and colourful kites, with plenty of other activities for the whole family to enjoy for free.

Festival organiser Gill Bloom said: “We have some wonderful new flyers and makers coming to the festival this year, and we are so excited to bring back some of our favourites from the past.

“It’s a lot of work to pull this festival together, but with the help of Portsmouth City Council, this year’s festival is shaping up to be even bigger than ever.

“The theme this year — in recognition of the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War — is turn of the 20th century historical kites original or replica.”

Portsmouth International Kite Festival will run from 10:00am through 5:00pm from 23th to 25th August and is free to attend.
