Portsmouth City Council and Capital FM South Coast treated pupils at Portsmouth schools to a secret Anne-Marie gig at the New Theatre Royal on Friday 27th January.

The intimate concert formed part of Capital FM’s Get In:volved project, rewarding hard-working pupils at schools across the UK who have the highest attendance.

Schools included in Get In:volved Portsmouth were:

  • Admiral Lord Nelson School
  • Charter Academy
  • King Richard School
  • Mayfield School
  • Miltoncross Academy
  • Priory School
  • Springfield School
  • St. Edmund’s School
  • Trafalgar School

Year 10 tutor groups with the highest collective overall attendance from each of the schools enjoyed an energetic performance from the chart-topping singer-songwriter.

Anne-Marie is known for her collaborations with Clean Bandit on Rockabye — which held #1 for nine weeks running in the UK — and Rudimental on Rumour Mill.

Her own tracks, Alarm and Do It Right, are also instantly-recognisable, both earning lengthy stays in the charts and masses of airtime.

Capital FM South Coast presenters highlighted the importance of school attendance before and after the gig — a message echoed by Anne-Marie during her performance.

She also took the chance to dedicate the show to backing band member Beanie — whose birthday was actually the following Sunday, “but we’re celebrating it today!”
