SEAN BOON LOVES THE MEAT – A Truly Mouth Watering App.

App name:  Steak Master

Price: £1.49

Description:  Preparing the perfect steak sure isn’t easy and needs a lot of experience, which not all of you have. The effects could be serious – you want the steak medium but it’s still dripping blood or your anticipated rare steak is overdone and tough as leather.

However, it does not have to be that way. The Steak Master is easy to use and will help you cook your steaks just as you like them every time.

My thoughts: Sorry veggies, I LOVE STEAK !  I only tend to have it when out at a restaurant. I can never get the steak cooked how I like it when I try at home.  (Medium, pink in the very centre.)

Well… this app was fateful. Tesco were having an offer on steak the other week.

What a perfect time to put Steak Master to the test.

Steak master is a cooking timer with added instructions.

You can choose how you wish to cook the steak, pan only or pan with oven (the proper way apparently).

Then choose the desired ‘done-ness’ Either through selecting the picture or the decription. Everything from very rare to welldone.

Then tell the app how thick your steak is. Yes it even has a ruler!

A checklist of required equipment follows. I’ll save you time, you’ll need tinfoil and a touch of oil.

As soon as you check all the items on the list, you are ready to cook

The app tells you to turn the pan up to a specific temperature for searing and counts down when to turn the meat over.

When to turn the heat down and then the final timings which make the steak really juicy.

This app seems like a bit of a gimmick, but for me it is invaluable. I’m a food fusspot that loves cooking. But when I do, I like to try and emulate the restaurants I visit.

As cooking apps go, this is great and for its purpose but I see that it could be integrated into a bigger app.  Imagine it with a recipe  or roast dinner timer. This could have a lot of potential to be a really big cooking app.

Standalone though Steak Master I’d give 4 out of 5
