Sean Boon reviews Guitar Toolkit.

by

App name: Guitar Toolkit

Price:  £6.99

Description:

‘GuitarToolkit’ is a collection of essential guitar tools, including an extremely accurate tuner, a precision metronome and a massive library of chords, scales and arpeggios – all on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

My thoughts:

Play guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele or banjo?

Got an iPhone?

This app is so essential that I’m giving 5 out of 5 before I go into any further detail!

Supporting Supports 6-, 7- and 12-string guitar, 4-, 5- and 6-string bass, banjo, mandolin, and ukulele with standard and alternate tunings. This really is an essential toolkit for fingerpickers everywhere.

Guitar toolkit features a metronome with tap tempo for complete control.

In app purchases feature a drum machine add on that works closely with it.

There are chord diagrams for your reference, not only in diagram form but you can use your devices touch screen to hear how the chord sounds or how each string should sound individually.

The chord section of Guitar toolkit is pure genius. Not only can you hear the chord as it should be played by your instrument of choice but you can also clear the fretboard and draw your own chord shapes. Handy if you have only seen someone use the fingering. Duplicate it on this app and find out what chord it is.

You can take combinations of chords and create a virtual songsheet  for practice time.

For reference there are scale charts, great for those of you who write your own songs or like your screaming solos.

The reason I looked into this app was I have a few stringed instruments that I’m learning and had no idea of the tuning of each.

Despite being called Guitar toolkit, this app covers Mandolin, Ukulele and Banjo.

With its built in tuner you can rest assured that all will sound great.

You can choose to tune your instruments to standard or alternative tunings.

The iPhones microphone creates a great tuner for acoustic instruments.

So as far as reviews go, this is simply a recommendation.

£6.99 is above the average price for most apps but this is worth every penny. It’s difficult to find a guitar tuner on its own for that value let alone all the other tools included.

A must buy!
