Panoramic artwork celebrates Spinnaker Tower’s tenth anniversary
The Emirates Spinnaker Tower are celebrating ten years of incredible views by showcasing a stunning bespoke piece of artwork across its panoramic windows.
Local artist Dave Kirby, known by the moniker ‘Los Dave’, created the mural, which is visible from outside the iconic sail-shaped tower for a limited period of time, facing out onto Portsmouth’s historic harbour.
Visitors will be able to put their own creative flair to good use over the tower’s 10th anniversary weekend, on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October, writing or drawing a celebratory message on the viewing tower’s floor-to-ceiling windows.
Sarah Webb, General Manager of Emirates Spinnaker Tower, said: “Inviting guests to contribute to the anniversary mural offers an extraordinary opportunity.
“We know that our guests leave with such special memories and that the tower evokes a great amount of pride in the people of Portsmouth too, so it will be amazing to capture that in these mini-murals and messages our visitors produce during the anniversary weekend celebrations.”
Artist Dave Kirby added: “It’s a great honour to be asked to produce an anniversary design for the Spinnaker Tower. The broader landscape has been a strong feature of my work for many years so the background is an abstraction of the distant horizon and panoramic landscape that you can view from the Tower.
“The seven-metre design combines my deep love of the landscape with the celebratory, fun feel of traditional hand painted fairground signage. The iconic nature of the building and their role has certainly made this a unique, interesting and technically challenging job.”
The Emirates Spinnaker Tower is open daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm, excluding Christmas Day.
