Silver Spirit Cruise Liner makes debut in Portsmouth
Portsmouth International Port welcomed Silver Spirit, one of Silversea’s largest cruise ships, to the city for the first time on Tuesday 11th June.
The ship’s 604 guests began their voyage in Barcelona and are ten days into their 11-day cruise, calling into Portsmouth to discover the city’s attractions and world-renowned maritime heritage before completing their journey in London on the 12 June.
To commemorate this inaugural visit, Leader of the Council Gerald Vernon-Jackson exchanged official plaques with Silver Spirit Captain Samuele Failla during an on-board reception.
Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, said: “We’re honoured to welcome Silver Spirit to our port and hope this will be the first of many visits to Portsmouth.
“Her guests will have enjoyed a unforgettable arrival, sailing between historic forts in the Solent and passing iconic landmarks at the harbour’s entrance. We hope they have taken the opportunity to explore the city’s prestigious maritime past by visiting our world-class attractions, including Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and the D-Day Story.
“We’re investing £19m in to the port which will enable us to accommodate more ships like this, alongside also other larger vessels. This will mean that we’ll be able to offer a wider range of destinations and cruise lines from Portsmouth, and businesses in the city will benefit from the increased numbers of visitors coming to the city.”
Fully refurbished in 2018, Silver Spirit offers one of the highest space to guest ratios in the cruise industry and eight superlative luxury dining options, offering its guests one of the most complete cruise experiences available.
