Spinnaker Tower lights up orange to mark World Osteoporosis Day
The Spinnaker Tower will be lit up orange on Friday 20th October 2017 to mark World Osteoporosis Day.
Osteoporosis is the fragile bone disease which causes painful, debilitating, and sometimes fatal fractures, particularly of the wrist, hip, and spine.
It affects approximately three-million people in the UK, with an estimated 500,000 fractures occurring as a result of the condition every year — that’s 1,400 a day.
Spinnaker Tower, located in Gunwharf Quays, will be lit up orange to mark World Osteoporosis Day, and in recognition of the charitable work carried out by the National Osteoporosis Society.
Over the past three decades, the Charity has funded groundbreaking research into osteoporosis, set up support groups across the UK, raised awareness, and provided a lifeline for those with the disease.
Jo Sayer, the Charity’s Development Manager for the region, said: “It’s fantastic that our Portsmouth Support Group have arranged for the Spinnaker Tower to be lit up orange. As a charity, we are always striving to raise awareness of osteoporosis.”
