Using Portsmouth Park & Ride on the Great South Run weekend

Runners and spectators can use a special Park & Ride service from Portsmouth International Port to travel to the Great South Run on Sunday 23rd October.

Portsmouth City Council are running the special event service from the multi-storey car park at Portsmouth International Port, with buses running every five minutes from 7:00am to 9:00am, taking runners and spectators directly to Clarence Pier, a short walk from the starting line.

Return buses will be waiting to depart from Clarence Pier from 12:15pm to 3:27pm.

It’s an easy, cheap, and efficient way to travel to the race. Drivers will need to pay on exit by cash or card — but passengers should note that Park & Ride smartcards cannot be accepted for this special event service.

The regular Portsmouth Park & Ride will still be operating every 15 minutes for shoppers, visitors, and spectators travelling to the city centre and The Hard. This will run from the earlier time of 8:00am, but buses leaving the Park & Ride site between 9:30am and approximately 3:00pm will only travel as far as the city centre due to event road closures.

Normal Park & Ride bus services from The Hard will resume when the roads reopen at approximately 3:00pm. The last bus leaves from The Hard at 6:20pm, and from the city centre at 6:25pm.

Park & Ride may be an especially useful transport alternative for train passengers, as there will be disruptions caused by improvements works being carried out in Farnham on the Great South Run weekend.

Councillor Jim Fleming, cabinet member for Traffic & Transportation at Portsmouth City Council, said: “We are looking forward to hosting the 26th Great South Run in Portsmouth next weekend, and welcoming thousands of runners and spectators to the city.

“Please note that traffic will be very busy on the Sunday, and we recommend using public transport or our special Park & Ride service from The Hard if travelling to the event. Good luck to all runners!”
