Top five Easter family friendly events in and around Portsmouth 2019… and one extra
Easter isn’t all about chocolate eggs, it’s also a great time to get out and enjoy the spring sunshine. We’ve picked a selection of some of the great family friendly events in and around Portsmouth this Easter.
Easter Fun at the Tower
Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth
6–22 April
Follow an Easter trail around the 170-metre landmark tower to find egg-shaped puzzle pieces.
13 and 20 April
Bing and Flop from CBeebies show Bing will be at the Tower at intervals to meet you. Say ‘hello’ to them and bring a camera. Please note, you are advised to pre-book since there are limited spaces on the day on a first come, first served basis.
Easter at Staunton
Staunton Country Park
6–22 April
Normal admission charges, plus a small charge for some activities
Follow the bunny I spy trail around the farm (for a small charge) and you may get to meet the Easter Bunny. As well as enjoying spring on the farm and meeting some of the animals, you can also get your face painted and take part in an Easter bonnet craft activity.
The Big Blue
Blue Reef Aquarium, Portsmouth
6–22 April
Take a ‘Fact or Fishtion’ quiz, find out about life deep in the ocean in the Nautical Nippers Trail and Rockpool Encounters. Lots of fun and interesting fishy activities in Portsmouth’s seafront aquarium. Great if the weather is wet too!
Woolly Mammoths
16 April 11am–12pm and 2–3pm
Cumberland House Natural History Museum
£2.50 per child, accompanying adults free (booking advised, call 023 9281 5276)
Not quite the Easter bunny, but woolly mammoths used to roam the area around Portsmouth during the Ice Age. Now you can find out more about them and make a mini mammoth to take home with you. You could even touch some real mammoth remains.
Poppies for D-Day 75
9 April 10am–4pm
D-Day Museum and Overlord Embroidery, Portsmouth
Free paper poppy-making workshop. Help commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. No booking required. You can also discover the personal stories behind D-Day at this recently relaunched museum.

Romans in Residence Butser IX Region

Butser Ancient Farm
Watch fighting and marching demonstrations, archery, Roman cooking and more as the Butser IX Roman Legion take up residence at the Roman villa. Hands-on fun, suitable for all.
