Portsmouth Pride 2018 draws thousands to seafront
Southsea seafront was ignited with colour on Saturday 15th September 2018 as this year’s Portsmouth Pride march paraded down the promanade to the event festivities in West Battery Gardens, the site of Southsea Bandstand.
Thousands joined the parade, which was led by Portsmouth South MP Stephen Morgan, Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt, 2018/2019 Lord Mayor Councillor Lee Mason & 2018/2019 Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor David Fuller.
Hundreds sang and danced at the main stage as a rapturous succession of performers, musicians, and speakers brought Portsmouth Pride to life, introduced by compáres such as The Fabulous Josh and Mister Joe Black.
Headlining Portsmouth Pride 2018 was drag star Alexis Michelle - perhaps best known for her appearance on RuPaul’s Drag Race - who brought this year’s seafront celebration of love, diversity, and equality to its glittery finale.
Stallholders at the event waved the banner for many LGBTQ+ movements and matters, including equality in the Royal Navy and public services, sexual health checks, and counselling.
Organisers said: “Thanks to the thousands who came down and supported your local Pride! With your support, Portsmouth Pride will grow each year, and with the amazing feedback, the event can only get better!”
